However, the Flash Sales will still end today at noon, although on Howrse's page about this it says the 16th! We're assuming they mean the 18th though.

Additionally, the extra Unicorn breeding times which are currently available, will also be extended until 20th July at noon, Game Time. So you can now also breed Uni's at 10.58am and 9.58pm Game Time until the end of the contest.

So get potioning. Hmmm, that's not a word is it? Never mind. Have fun!

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-71451225135839458172011-07-17T10:10:00.004+01:002011-07-17T10:15:34.226+01:00Ultimate Howrse Summer Giveaway - Winners

Well we had a fantastic response to our contest so thank you to all of you who entered. Like the Ruby Divine, Sapphire gives you diamonds which can be traded to give him more skills or to buy items in the Black Market. 10 diamonds equals 1 pass and Sapphire gives you a diamond on even days and 1000 equus on odd days. So if you look after him every day, you will have enough diamonds to trade for 1 pass, every 20 days!

Howrse also says this about Sapphire: Sapphire is a precious horse. Each time he wakes up, he asks you to come and join him on another player's page. If you follow his instructions, Sapphire gives you a diamond on even days and 1000 equus on odd days.

Each Sapphire comes with a Philospher's Stone and a Water of Youth. Like most Divines they are male and cannot breed and currently they cannot be sold either. This may well change so we'll let you know if and when you can get Sapphires in HoP's or in the sales. They also have 1200 skills split evenly amongst speed, jumping, gallop etc.

Now the only way to get one of these lovely horses right now, is by cooking up a potion using the following ingredients:

15 x Horseshoes
5 x Pegasus Feathers
15 x Ingredients of your choice

But even that isn't quite enough. You need to have made 30 potions throughout the course of the contest too.

So get those potions brewed and maybe you too can soon be the proud owner of a magical, diamond-giving Sapphire!

Good luck,

Patsy

UPDATE: We understand that the issue with Sapphire's not working properly has now been fixed.

Patsynoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-47112299726335812842011-07-05T22:34:00.003+01:002011-07-05T22:42:30.061+01:00Howrse Magic Potions - The Fruit SaladStarting today until the 16th of July at noon game time Howrse have introduced the Magic Potions competition. Not only that, it's great to see you all helping each other too.

We have always aimed to be the number one place for players to go when they want help, advice or news on Howrse. And with your help, we really are getting there. You, our readers, are part of a huge worldwide community of players who visit Ultimate Howrse in growing numbers.

And speaking of numbers, since we began we have had over 56,000 visits with more than 113,000 page views. And we now average over 300 visits every single day. And this is brilliant because the more people who visit, the more comments are left for you to read and enjoy. We try to answer every question you ask, but often other players provide their own answers too, which really helps us out. You are certainly a very helpful and supportive lot!

So we wanted to say a big 'thank you' to all our lovely readers who continue to use Ultimate Howrse as their first choice for Howrse help. Every ticket you buy will win you something so its worth taking part.

Draws take place every day at 0:00 - 2:00 - 12:00 - 14:00 - 16:00 - 18:00 - 20:00 - 22:00 Game Time. For each one you can buy 2 tickets yourself at a price of 200 equus each. You can also send your friends tickets (although you can only send them one throughout the whole of the lottery) and they can send you tickets back. For each pass you spend you will receive 2 tickets for the next draw (although this doesn't include horse purchases. So basically you need to spend them in the Black Market). In addition, you also get one ticket per draw for winning a competition with any of your horses. This is a new way to get tickets which I think is great as it gives everyone more chances to win.

You can enter the lottery by going to your homepage (the page you get when you first log in) and clicking on the lottery banner.

Lucy

Lucynoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-42925652476935357552011-05-22T12:55:00.004+01:002011-05-22T14:08:15.131+01:00The Black PearlThere have been a few changes to the Black Pearl and Golden Apple coats over the past week, including the introduction of some brand new items that you can submit illustrations for. Here's an overview of how the Black Pearl now works.

The Black Pearl now lets you submit illustrations for Golden Apple coats (as before), Helios's Ray (backgrounds for your horses' pages) and the Horn of Gold (coats for the companions).

The Black Pearl costs 2 passes and you need 5 karma points to be able to use it.

Creation of illustrations

To create a new illustration, you can use any computer graphics editing software such as Paint, Photoshop or Gimp. You're not allowed to just submit a photograph - it must be an illustration or drawing and it must be your own work - don't copy it from anywhere or you risk having your account suspended. Make your illustrations as life-like or imaginary as possible.

If you're not sure where to start, many Howrse players provide outlines of horses (line art) that they've given their permission for other people to use and submit as coats. Check out the Black Pearl - free line art forum post if you'd like to use one. So you could start with of these and just colour it in any way you like!

To send your illustrations, you must use the templates provided by Howrse:

for the Golden Apple

for Helios's Ray

A black frame marks the position of the horse to help you position your landscape properly

The frame and the horse it contains must be erased before you send your illustration

for the Horn of Gold

The top frame is for the awake Companion

The bottom frame is for the sleeping Companion

Your image must be placed on the transparent space on the provided template. You must not change the size or format of this template.

Make sure you follow Howrse's instructions or your artwork may not be accepted. You must save your work as a .PNG file.

Publishing your illustration

Now, when you send in your illustration via the Black Pearl, it won't be published right away.

Firstly, Howrse will check it to see if it meets all the criteria for submission and then it will be sent to the Creation Space for other players to vote on it.

If your illustration wins the vote then it will be published on all versions of Howrse at the end of the month (including the different language versions). You will also earn passes as your illustration is used by players - see our post on the Creation Space to learn how much you can get.

If your illustration doesn't win the vote then it will appear again in the Creation Space the following month to allow players to vote for it again. If after 3 months, it still doesn't pass the vote, it will be removed.

If your illustration doesn't get voted on to the game then you will get back the passes you spent on the Black Pearl. However, if your coat isn't accepted because it doesn't fit Howrse's criteria - which can be found on the Black Pearl page you won't get your passes back - so be careful!

Good luck with your illustration submissions and let us know how you get on.

Lucy

Lucynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-27498506836333467142011-05-19T20:10:00.004+01:002011-05-22T20:35:19.183+01:00The Creation SpaceThis week, Howrse have just introduced another new feature - The Creation Space.

The Creation Space is now the place where you submit illustrations for Golden Apple coats via the Black Pearl.

Howrse have also introduced two new items that you can submit illustrations for: the companions (bought with a Horn of Gold) or backgrounds for your horses' pages (bought with a Helios's Ray).

The Creation Space is for all languages (English, German, French etc...). That means if you propose an illustration and it wins the vote, it will be available in all languages and vice versa.

Yes, there is now a vote involved. When you submit an illustration to the Creation Space other players will be able to vote for their favourites. Your coat / background will only be accepted by Howrse if enough players vote for it!

The selection process takes place every month, and follows a specific procedure. This month:

Proposing illustrations
16 may 01:00 » 23 may 00:59
Everyone can propose illustrations using the Black Pearl

Validation
The Howrse team removes any illustrations that don't comply with the rules

Voting
25 may 01:00 » 30 may 00:59
Players of all languages vote on the illustrations once they have been validated

Selection
The most popular illustrations are selected and sorted by category

Publishing
31 may 11:00
The selected illustrations are published online in each of the site's languages

Proposing illustrations gets the creator rewards. The day an illustration is published, each illustration earns its author:

10,000 equus

Different numbers of passes for different types of illustration:

50 passes For a Coat for the Golden Apple with no limitation on the number of uses or 25 passes for a coat with a limited number of uses

 25 passes for a Helios's Ray landscape

15 passes for a Horn of Gold companion

Golden Apple coats have also been changed slightly. Old style coats can now be retired by their owners after 100 uses. Any Golden Apple coats created using the Creation Space will either be published as unlimited coats or as limited use coats (with a fixed number). However, Howrse will now make the decision on how many uses these coats have. The author no longer has any control.

So, get yourselves along to the Creation Space and start submitting your illustrations, voting and enjoying the new graphics that come along. Let us know what you think.

Lucy

Lucynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-61947708968670035522011-05-17T22:23:00.003+01:002011-05-17T22:49:33.953+01:00Flash Sales May 2011Today Howrse have announced the return of the ever popular flash sales. From today, Tuesday 17 until Monday 30 May at 12.00 game time you can use your equus to bid on gifts in the flash sales.

Among the gifts to be won are new companions not yet available on the game - the Squirrel, Turtle and Frog. Howrse introduced companions to the game last week and these three are currently only available via the flash sales, so they are bound to be popular items.

You can also bid on Nyx Packs, Poseidon's Packs, Fertility Wands, Passes, Pieces of Cloud, Ploutos' Parchments, Horns of Plenty, Made-to-measure tack and aging points.

There are two types of flash sale - the direct sales in which every item has a fixed price (but you have to be quick to get them) and the auctions in which you can bid any amount for the item you want. Remember though that you can only buy one item in each type of sale every 3 days - so make sure you pick your items carefully.

Right, time to save up your equus and get bidding on some great gifts!

Lucy

Lucynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-51689075468119289852011-05-16T13:32:00.015+01:002011-05-16T17:52:16.345+01:00New Howrse CompanionsHowrse have just introduced companions to the game. Here's a quick guide to what they say about the companions and how they will affect the game:

Once your horse is 8 months old you can now assign him a companion. Once a companion has been assigned to your horse it can't be removed, so make sure you choose wisely. (Scroll down for a guide to what each companion offers your horse).

The companions act as a bonus for your horse giving skill gains and a dressage bonus.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: You now cannot play games with your foal unless your horse has a companion!

Each day when your horse wakes up, its companion is asleep. You can choose to wake up the companion by playing with it or leave it asleep. If you play with a companion the time you choose to play is taken out of your horse's day - just like lessons, rides, training etc.

If you buy a horse with a companion already in place you have 7 days to decide whether to keep the companion or change it to a different one. If you replace the current companion you do not get any compensation and the companion runs away.

When you play with your companion the following things happen:

From 8 months to 1 year 6 months
Your horse receives a gain in Genetic Potential for each hour of play, equaling a maximum gain of 1.2 (as previously). So, your old foal games will still work but you MUST now give your horse a companion to be able to see the foal games button.

From 1 year 8 months to 25 years
Your horse wins equus and/or skills depending on which companion it has. The maximum skills gained over your horse's lifetime is 60. These are spread evenly between all his skills (so 10 extra points per skill).

From 1 year 8 months
If you play with your horse's companion for at least 30 minutes it will give your horse a bonus in dressage for that day.

When you age your horse it's companion falls asleep again ready for the next day.

There are currently 7 companions available (Howrse say that there are more on the way)

Goat<img style="float: left; We were kindly asked to be interviewed by red_chick94 who has interviewed quite a few players on Howrse. Anyway - here's her interview. We hope you enjoy it:

red_chick94 interviews LucyLou and Patsy

This is my first combined interview I’ve done with two great players, LucyLou & Patsy. Please let me know via pm or on here if you like combined interviews.....

Hi you two! Do you feel privileged to be the first players to have a combined interview with me?
(P) Oh most definitely. Having looked at your list of illustrious interviewees, I feel honoured to be interviewed at all!
(L) Absolutely. I hope we can do the interview justice.

So, how did you two meet/get to know each other?
(L) We actually know each other in 'real' life. We used to work together and one day I introduced Patsy to Howrse, via a conversation about the price of turnips!
(P) Yes, that's right. I have to admit, I was a bit sceptical when I first saw the game but I thought that any game that had fluctuating vegetable prices in, had to be worth a look.

How would you describe each other in one word?
(L) Hilarious (but I mean that in a good way - she never fails to make me laugh!)
(P) Inspirational.
(L) Awww, thanks Patsy.

So, I noticed you had a fabulous website. Can you tell us about it?
(L) Well it's basically a help site/blog that we set up together for the players of Howrse.
(P) As LucyLou says, it's really just intended to help players of the game. However we find it helps us too. We find out loads of things we never knew, when we're researching for our postings.

How did you think of the name?
(L) I'm not sure really. We wanted it to have the word Howrse in so people could find it easily. Patsy came up with the Ultimate bit.
(P) As LucyLou says, we definitely needed it to have Howrse in the title. I chose 'Ultimate' as I thought it summed up what we wanted the site to do, it's easy to spell and has a memorable sound to it, I hope!

Why and when did you set it up?
(L) It was Patsy who came up with the idea originally. We both get so many questions from players each day asking for help so she thought it would be a good idea to make a site where we could share all the knowledge we have about the game. Hence Ultimate Howrse was born.
(P) Yes I suppose it was my idea. But as soon as I discussed it with LucyLou, she was really excited about the whole thing. We launched the site on August 31st 2009, with an article about how to take care of your first foal. Since then we've had over 39,000 unique visits and more than 81,000 page views. Our readership is based mainly in the USA, with the UK second and Canada third. But we have readers from all over the world. Places such as Guam, China, Iran and Brazil.
(L) Wow. I'm impressed by Guam.
(P) Oh there's loads. Angola, Belgium and even Christmas Island. In fact we have readers in 101 countries around the world.

What is your aim with your website?
(P)We have a pretty simple aim with Ultimate Howrse - to help players enjoy the game as much as possible. We wanted to create a site outside of Howrse where people could come and find answers and information on the game. As it turns out, it's not just us providing the help - other players come on and answer questions and share their knowledge too.
(L) I agree with everything that Patsy has just said. Sometimes it's quite hard to get your question answered on the Howrse forums so hopefully we're providing another place for people to go to get help and advice, as well as news and special features such as interviews. Like this one!

Are any new features going to come to UH?
(P) Something we've just introduced is videos. We found that sometimes trying to explain how to do something is quite difficult just using words. So what better way than to use video?
(L) I really like the videos - we've just posted one showing what happens when you wake your Gypse up in the morning. Not a lot of players get to see this as they don't own one (me included!) so it's a really nice thing to show. And also very hard to explain by just writing about it.
(P) In the future we may get into Facebook and Twitter but for now we just want to build a community around Ultimate Howrse. We average around 300 visits a day, so right now, we just want to make sure we're doing all we can for our readers and contributors.

Do you find it hard to manage this game and the website?
(P) I have to say that it can be rather time consuming but I'm always conscious that we need to keep the site up to date. I'm always the one who posts about any 'breaking news' coming from Howrse. Things such as a new Divine horse, new features or a new competition. I like us to be the first for important news because a lot of players search Google for information when something major happens in the game. So I love it when we are there with the answers - or most of them at least. LucyLou does a great job of writing about things such as training, breeding or running your EC. Mainly because she knows what she's talking about and I don't.
(L) LOL thanks Patsy. I find it quite hard to do both. Sometimes I'll be in the mood for playing the game rather than writing about it and at other times vice versa. Patsy has to keep me on the straight and narrow! But yes, I really enjoy helping players with the 'nitty gritty' elements of playing the game.

What do you two enjoy doing the most on this game?
(P)That's easy - making money!
(L) That's easy for me too - skilling horses.

Can you two tell me a random fact about yourselves?
(L) I wrote my University Mathematics dissertation on 'Equations of length seven over free groups'.
(P) Nice! Hmmm, I can't quite compete with that. However, my voice was once used as the voice of a cuddly bear that was sold in gift shops. I had to say things like "Happy birthday" and "I love you" in a cartoon voice. Strange but true.

You both have great rankings. What has made these rankings achievable?
(L) I've been playing the game since 2007 and after about a year I realised that to get up the General rankings you need to buy horses, and lots of them. So that's what I did and still do to this very day. The highest I've been is 6th overall but these days I'm quite happy to just be in the top 10. In fact, just today I went back up to 8th - it's a lot harder these days though.
(P) I have to confess to being a bit inconsistent. I'm currently in the top 10 of the Breeders' wealth rankings and I achieved this mainly by buying horses in the auctions and then selling them at a profit in the direct sales. I do buy passes too which helps. But I get bored easily. About a year ago, I was in the top 20 of the Breeders' wealth rankings but decided to spend nearly all my money to buy 1561 horses which got me to 19th in the General ranking. And then, I sold them all and got back into the top 20 of the Breeders' wealth rankings! Random.

Do you agree that having a close friend on the game is useful?
(P) Absolutely. I'm actually quite rubbish at playing the game and if it wasn't for LucyLou's patience and advice I'd probably have given up about 900 days ago!
(L) Yes definitely. We help each other out all the time and it's great to have someone to talk to about the game. Most other people would think I'm mad.
(P) You are mad.
(L) Thanks for that!

You’re ECs are looking great as well; however have either of you made a mistake within the EC?
(L) Oh I'm terrible with my EC. I'm forever forgetting to plant crops, get new employees and extend my horses board. I am proud of my EC's ranking - when everything is as it should be - it took a lot of time and hard work to get it up there.
(P) I made a brilliant mistake with my EC recently. I accidentally bought 50 DO (small) boxes instead of manure! No joke - 50 of the little devils. I had to destroy them all and only got half my money back. I'm a bit stupid like that sometimes. Other than that, my favourite trick is to forget to extend my employees' contracts. Doh.

Can you tell us who inspires you most on the game?
(L) Anyone who's above me in the General ranking - I know how hard they must have worked to get there. And also Patsy inspires me too - with her vast amounts of money and herself restraint when it comes to spending it!
(P) Well obviously LucyLou because she keeps me going but also players who do things like play the game without buying passes or people who produce really creative GA coats. I just admire players who play their own game really.
Finally...if you two could swap seats with each other and play each other’s game for one day, would you do it? If so, why, if not, why?
(L) Oh I would, definitely. Although Patsy might find she has considerably less money when she comes back the next day as I would spend it all buying lovely horses! That's my downfall on Howrse; as soon as I have money I spend it.
(P) It would be great - to have all those horses and all those PM's to deal with. Not sure I could cope with the lack of equus. I may have to sell a few Divines! Hmmm. maybe we should just stick to our own games. Well LucyLou and I have been running Ultimate Howrse for nearly 2 years now and we've finally got the recognition we deserve! The other day, red_chick94 contacted me and asked if LucyLou and I would like to do an interview for her forum. Well, of course we said 'yes'. She has interviewed quite a few players over time, including people such as horsekitty, Dr Zig and sassyk. So we were both honoured to be asked.

Currently we're just waiting for the interview to be published in her forum. As soon as it's in ready you'll then be able to read it if you just visit her page on International Howrse and go to her EC forum. We'll also be publishing the full interview here, on Ultimate Howrse. So either way, you won't miss out.

So come back soon and you can find out all you wanted to know about Patsy, LucyLou and Ultimate Howrse.

You lucky people!

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-68011573115263706062011-04-22T12:37:00.005+01:002011-05-16T17:52:36.559+01:00Unicorn changeHowrse has introduced a change to the Unicorns. It's not a major one but will increase your chances of breeding one of these little cuties. Here's what Howrse tells us:

From now on, when you breed your Unicorns you have a little more chance to get a baby Unicorn !

You must however still breed them at the right time and have both parents Unicorns of the same breed to get a chance at having a lovely little baby Unicorn !

We wish you luck for your future Unicorn babies!

The Howrse Team
Now what they don't say is exactly what that increase is. Well, we've done a little digging and discovered that you now have a 1 in 5 chance of breeding a Unicorn instead of the previous 1 in 6 chance. You can find this info in the 'bonus' tab of your Uni. Of course you still have to ensure both parents are Unicorns and that you breed at exactly 6.23am or 6.23pm game time.

So now you have a slighty greater chance of breeding a lovely Unicorn, like my Wilbur - pictured above.

Good luck!

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-16320310546124273522011-04-16T15:33:00.006+01:002011-05-16T17:59:45.483+01:00GypseWe've written about the Gypse divine horse before but we've never written about what a Gypse is and what makes it different from other Divines and Specials. So, the Gypse (or 'sand' horse) first appeared in the summer of 2010 Beach Competition, when they could be bought with 'sand' which you earned by winning competitions, buying passes, training horses etc. After the competition, Howrse then gave players the chance to win one in a Horn of Plenty (HoP). And I was lucky enough to get one.

Now the Gypse is very unusual in that the skills it had when you got it could vary hugely. Gypse's that were won in the Beach Competition came with zero skills. Players had to use the 'sand' they had left to give the horse skills. However, players who won Gypse's in the HoP's found that they came with 10,000 grains of sand which meant that these Gypse's effectively had around 1300 skills!

Like most Divines, they are male and cannot breed. However they can be sold. What makes them different from all other Divines is the fact that players can add skills to their Gypse every day and they can decide which skills the horse gains. Howrse states that you have to 'rebuild' Gypse's each day but this is a little bit misleading. In fact, you simply get given a certain amount of 'sand' each day which can then allocate to whichever skill you wish.

The best way to explain this is to show you. Click on one of the links below to see what happens when you activate your Gypse horse each day.

Ultimate Howrse video guide - Rebuilding Gypse (Standard definition)

Ultimate Howrse video guide - Rebuilding Gypse (High definition)

So that's all you need to know about the Gypse.

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-52687988134576226822011-04-16T13:28:00.005+01:002011-05-16T18:04:50.254+01:00The FountainWith the Wandering Horses competition there was a great deal of discussion in the forums about the Grand Prix element. To win the 'Shy' horse, you needed to enter the Grand Prix. And the best way of getting enough points for this was to get a Fountain because you were awarded 50 points towards your'Shy'. Neither LucyLou or I had ever won a Fountain as they are only awarded to players who come in the top 100 of the Grand Prix each week.

Well, last week I managed to come 36th in the Grand Prix and so was awarded a Fountain (along with a Falabella, but I'll talk about that later!) which you can see in the picture above. As you can see it replaces the icon for water above the 'Drink' label. So what does it do? Well, with a normal water, your horse gets +2 energy and +1 morale. With the Fountain, your horse get +6 energy and +3 morale. This is really useful, especially when you are training/blupping your horse.

Now the Fountain only lasts a week. After that it disappears and you have to come in the top 100 of the Grand Prix again to get another one. However, a really good thing about the Fountain is that in the week that you have it - it appears on all your horses, which is fabulous.

So that's the Fountain.

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-78009821336892181792011-04-12T16:11:00.006+01:002011-05-16T18:31:07.392+01:00Ultimate Howrse videosWe're big fans of technology (as well as Howrse of course) here at Ultimate Howrse, and we thought it would be a rather great idea to try a new way of helping all of our lovely readers. So we decided to try our hand at video guides. Whilst we love writing about all of our hints, tips and news, sometimes it 's just so much easier if we can actually show you instead. As from today, we will, from time to time, be using video to help you learn about Howrse, its features, gameplay and much more.

As you'll see, we've added a new tag (called 'Video' obviously!) to help you search for anything we've posted to our YouTube channel. Below is our first video, so please be patient as it's out first attempt. Practice makes perfect remember!

This first video is really just a test and is intended for people who are brand new to Howrse. We shall be producing videos ona whole range of topics, so if you have any requests, just drop us an email to ultimatehowrse@me.com and we'll do our best to help.

Ultimate Howrse video - The Menus

Ultimate Howrse video - The Menus (High Definition)

Enjoy,

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-18895776696590478192011-04-10T16:54:00.007+01:002011-05-16T22:05:20.665+01:00All new Howrse foal games from April 2011These brand new foal games have been devised since the major changes by Howrse in April 2011. With the removal of the saltstone, the removal of the two-carrot bonus and the increase in gains from the 'double lesson' the whole way foals are trained has changed. So it's great news that StaciMM has come up with these all-new foal games to allow for these changes. So a big thanks to her, and here is her guide. We've tested it and it works perfectly:

This will work for any size horse/pony and should NOT result in a seriously overweight/unhealthy horse.

Board your foal in a centre with carrots & clean, fertile meadows, and make sure morale is full when you put the foal to bed at 6 months old.

Put your horse to bed in the meadow each night. If the temperature is under 10C put your horse to bed in the box.

NOTE: Your horse will now need a companion to be able to do these games.

8 months
Groom/1 Hr Pasture/1 Hr Games/Turnip/Feed 4 pounds/7 Hrs Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water

10 months
Groom/1 Hr Pasture/1 Hr Games/Turnip/Feed 4 Pounds/1 Hr Games/1.5 Hrs Pasture/7 Hrs Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water

12 months
Groom/1 Hr Pasture/1 Hr Games/Turnip/Feed 4 Pounds/8 Hrs Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water

1 year 2 months
Groom/1 Hr Pasture/1 Hr Games/Turnip/9 Hrs Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water/Feed **Feed 2-3 pounds less than it recommends**

1 year 4 months
Groom/30 Minutes Pasture/1 Hr Games/Turnip/Feed 4 pounds/10 Hrs Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water

1 year 6 months
Groom/30 Minutes Pasture/2 Hr Games/Turnip/Feed 14 Pounds/10 Hrs Games/1 Hr Games/Stroke/Carrot/Water

At most ages you are feeding a little less than recommended so as to get ready to overfeed at 18 mos. You MUST feed 14 pounds at 18 months to be able to put your horse to bed with 20% energy. Do not feed more than 4 pounds on each day when it says to feed just 4 pounds. The horse is eating a little in the pasture, and will be at a good/healthy weight when games are done. A pony (or small horse) may need to be underfed slightly at 20 months.

So good luck with your foal games. As long as you follow these instructions carefully, you will be rewarded with a perfect 1.2 GP gain on your horse.

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com54tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-52998358187498957432011-04-07T23:23:00.004+01:002011-05-16T18:34:15.815+01:00Wandering Horses madness!Well we've never seen anything like it. Howrse has gone crazy. We're all going mad for Fortunes', Pioneers' and Shy's. And as a result of the competition frenzy, prices for passes and HoP's have gone through the roof. Now aside from the controversy that has been raging in the forums about the 'Shy' part of the competition (we'll talk about that another time), this has to be the most popular competition ever on Howrse.

And so, in the frantic scramble to complete the objectives in order to win (for 5 days only, remember) these special horses, people are desperate to get hold of Horns of Plenty in order to get thet elusive 'Champion' horse. And I have to confess, I've been happy to sell pass horses for the going rate. And it's a record for me. 81,000 equus for a pass horse? Yes it's true. Three times! And when I got my Pioneer horse, I sold the HoP that is awarded with it, for 150,000 equus!

Crazy times and crazy prices. I just hope everyone gets what they want and enjoys the madcap mayhem that is the Wandering Horses competition.

Good luck everyone.

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-17355605998043245162011-04-05T10:45:00.006+01:002011-05-16T18:34:30.156+01:00Wandering Horses and NEW featuresWe've already seen that showers are coming to the international game but it looks like plenty more new things as well as some changes are on the way. So here's what we've found:

Wandering Horses feature

For two weeks UK Howrse is running a 'competition' wherby you collect a variety of UFO's or achieve certain objectives. These UFO's and objectives give you points and when you reach 100 points you get to have one of the 'wandering horses' for 5 days. Each of the 6 horses requires you to do things such as log on to the game, buy HoP's, enter races etc. When you 'win' your horse for the 5 days you also get an "awesome gift' when you take care of it. So it looks like HoP sales are going to be busy!

New features

Again, on UK Howrse, there are some changes coming.:
Apples can only be given to other players' horses. This is a strange one and we're not sure why it's been introduced. Maybe Howrse have something planned for the weeks ahead.
Also, the Salt Block is disappearing. No! We love our Salt Blocks. Apparently you will now get more energy when feeding, to compensate.
The double-carrot advantage is now being replaced by a single carrot and single turnip which will just provide more energy. Hmmm. Turnips cost 50e don't they...?
The two lessons are combined into one. So now lessons will take twice as long, use up twice as much energy but give 2.5 times more money and 2.5 times more skills. They will also provide 4% morale. The exisitng benefit of the third lesson will be replaced by additional equus earnings and skill gains in the remaining lesson.

So we shall wait to see if the international game gets all these new features and changes. There's certainly a lot to think about. Let us know your thoughts as we always love to hear from you.

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-18949202890500257652011-04-05T10:27:00.007+01:002011-05-16T18:04:06.395+01:00EC shower coming to Howrse? We've noticed that on several non-international sites such as UK Howrse, you can now buy a shower (see the picture) for your boxes in equestrian centres. Bizarre but true. Howrse describes the shower like this:

The shower is equipment for boxes in equestrian centres. It allows horses boarded in the box to spend 10% less energy on actions. That's why it's in such high demand among horse breeders and an asset to your centre!
It's an interesting new item and one that would definitely be a boost for breeders. On the UK site today (5th April) showers are priced at 19,900 equus. However, it is the same as the price for boxes and meadows in that the price fluctuates. So expect the price to increase if and when it comes to the international version of the game. We'd be surprised if it didn't come to the 'main' game but you never know.

So will we soon be rushing off to buy showers for our EC's? Maybe next, we'll be buying jacuzzi's and saunas too!

Patsy

UPDATE: Ow has confirmed that the showers will be coming to the international site soon.

Patsynoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-15591730024215139572011-04-01T08:52:00.007+01:002011-05-16T18:34:45.070+01:00The Big Lottery has endedToday, 1st April 2011, the Big Lottery has finally ended and in typical Howrse fashion, it finished at a different time than they had advertised. Ah well, never mind. The lottery has been hugely successful and popular with thousands of players entering each of the 8 daily draws. In fact it was so popular in the first few days that Howrse had to change the rules to stop massive amounts of prizes being handed out as well as to prevent cheating.

Originally you could exchange tickets with a friend 3 times during the lifetime of the lottery, but this meant enormous amounts of prizes were appearing in people's inventorys, which would have possibly undermined the game. For example on one draw, I won 840 apples! So Howrse changed the rules so that you could only exchange tickets with a friend once. A number of players had cheated by setting up multi-accounts and this was another reason for the rule change. Howrse also changed a rule which meant you could not take part in the lottery if your account was registered after the start of the competition. Smart move, we thought.

So players (including myself and LucyLou) were frantically sending and receiving friend requests in order to swap tickets. This became very confusing and it was hard to keep track of who had sent tickets and who hadn't. Howrse even set up a friend-making forum to make it easier for players to get large numbers of friends. Players soon realised that by deleting friends as soon as a ticket exchange had been completed meant you could get round the '10 friend requests per day' rule. A bit naughty but very useful.

So thousand of entrants for each draw and thousands of prizes awarded. Howrse added Nyx and Posiedon's packs to the items you could win, after the rule change. So players were also winning apples, Laurels, Eolus' Winds, Seahorses, Made to Measure Saddles, HoP's and of course bigger prizes such as Ploutos' Parchaments, Hermes' Winged Staffs and of course, Balios' - the new Divine horse.

I was very lucky. No I didn't win a Balios but I did win 7 Parchments and a Hermes' Winged Staff. Now LucyLou and I checked a large number of Balios winners and found that most of them had been registered on the game less than 300 days. So it appears that Howrse were possibly trying to prove that newer players have an equal chance of owning a Divine, by allowing more, less established players to win this fabulous new horse. Just our opinion of course.

And after several days of the Big Lottery, something totally unsurprising happened. Howrse started offering Balios' in HoP's. Well who'd have thought? We had to laugh when we saw this as the day the lottery started it was 100% certain that the new Divine would soon be available in Horns of Plenty - which you need to buy with passes of course. Oh well, that's how Owlient make their money as a business, so fair play to them. It was just so predictable it made us smile. We wouldn't be surprised to see that you can get one if you buy 30 passes. We shall see.

So, the Big Lottery was a success and an enormous amount of players took part. We'd love to know what you thought and if you'd like to see another one in the future. And if you were lucky enough to win a Balios - then share your good news with us.

Now, time to start saving for those passes....!

Patsy

Patsynoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476152314122764275.post-42307755086376526312011-03-22T19:34:00.004Z2011-03-22T19:47:45.420ZBalios - the new Lottery DivineToday, we welcome a new Divne to Howrse - Balios. He is the brother of Xanthos and comes in four different types - Solar, Lightning, Nebula and Snowflake.

On the 19th of each month he gives his owner a Nyx Pack - providing that they connected to Howrse the day before - very generous we think!

Now, at the moment the only way to get a Balios is to enter the Howrse Lottery and have a go at winning him. As I type only 1 Balios exists in the whole game - you can take a look at the first Balios won by clicking here. Currently Balios cannot be sold, although it looks as though this may change at some point in the future.

Balios is born aged over 740 years old and with 800 skills (although this may vary depending on the type). According to Howrse his skills will increase a little bit each day - rather like an Ocean.

So get buying those Lottery tickets and let's see if you're lucky enough to win a lovely Balios. I know I'll be trying...

Lucy

Lucynoreply@blogger.com13
